I support +fav over collecting by That-Stupid-Dingo I support +fav over collecting by That-Stupid-Dingo
My First DA Stamp, I've always wanted to make one, but have never had any reason to do so until now.

Anyway, I don't know about you, but I find the "collect" feature rather stupid, I mean do you really need to make it more easier for people to add stuff to their favorites than pushing a button?

To me if someone +fav's my work it generally means a pat on the back and it means a lot to me. But can the same really be said if someone decides to "collect" one or two (or more) of your drawings.

To "Collect" art, you don't even need to click on the thumbnail/link to view it, you can just drag and drop the thumbnail and dump it into your collection. People in general deserve a lot more respect than that... at least if someone +favs your work, they actually took the time to look at it.

Feel free to use this stamp in your journals or wherever.

Note: Adding Thumbnails to journals is a subscriber only feature

What's the difference? Technically, collecting something is still favoriting it. You just have a specific place for it. Like, I have a collection for everything canine. I love canines, and every picture in that folder (and it's a BIG folder). Why should that be treated as less of a favorite? I think that if someone has a collection, it's kind of better to add something that goes there to it. Because the "favourites" folder is typically a jumble of random things anyway.

I always full-view but I never fav. I always collect.
I want to be able to categorize my favourites, and before this stamp I didn't even know that people just added thumbs to their collections.

I mean, they haven't seen the image yet they fav it? Why would anyone do that? :|

A "I'll look at it later" mentality maybe, I dunno, I made this stamp before all the features were active, at the time it seemed rather stupid and other people were complaining about it at the time, but yeah I too collect a lot of stuff these days.

I agree. I mean, they could have just added a folder feature, not a whole new way to fav.

One of my friends collects stuff by only looking at the thumbnail. She doesn't even full-view, which isn't fair to the artist that put the effort in.

Man, I hate it when people collect my art. >: I don't care what anyone says; it's not the same as favouriting it!

I always fave first before putting art into one of my collections. After all, if you don't like it then why bother collecting it? And I'll still fave artwork even if it doesn't fit in any of my collections.

I understand where you come from on this, but I actually went back through my favorites and "collected them", just so I have some sort of organization so I can find them again when I want to look at a specific picture :)

I can see where its gone wrong though, its unfortunatelt o ruin a good thing.

well to me when i collect, I add to a section of my faveorites/collections were it fits. Like stamps that I like go into my "collection" of stamps :D To me it's the same thing, instead of going back to my favorites and editing pages and pages of artwork into different groups at one time, i can just do it on the page of the artwork.

Collections never made sense to me. I mean if you want to use it, it's cool with me.. I just don't have a good reason to? ^^;
However, I do love the fact that you can categorize your favs into different sections, but to me that has nothing to do with collecting.. that's just getting organized. Which I still have yet to do. Part of the reason I haven't done it yet is because I still have to figure out where to put everything.. that and I need to actually be in the mood to take the time and do that.

Great Stamp! :D

I collect, but I take the time to look at the piece full viewed first and read the comments. I like knowing what someone has to say about their work. Hell, I may even learn something!

Well yeah, ultimately the collect feature isn't that bad, it can be useful as people have pointed out, but on the same note, some people might see collecting as offensive as you don't even need to view a picture to collect it, you can just drag drop the thumbnail into your collections basket =P

I personally am none too fussed, but I have heard other people complain about it, and for the most parts I agree with them... but can't force people to go about things the way I would like, but at least I with others can state a preference =3

I like the collect feature in the way that I can organize them into categories, but I do not like that you can just select a picture and fav it without even looking at it first. It makes things a lot more impersonal.

no kidding x.x It's also sorta irritating when I remove all favourites to get to the watchers, and I have this list of 'collections'. Bleh. Not to mention I can't drag the image links into another window anymore (I work with two windows open). I really hope they change that.. but I guess that's doubtful lol

I kinda dislike the collecting feature, it doesn't really count as a "+fav", and it take a heck of a long time to load, especially when you have over a thousand favs :p

The "collecting system" could go either way. Some people will only use it the wrong way, which is the way you are disliking, but then some people will only use it as an organizing type of feature, such as the folders type system for your gallery. I still view deviations the same as I always have, view them in full and fave it if I like it. But then if I have the option to sort things into categories, I really really cannot resist it. ^^; Must be an OCD type of thing... :/

I admit i use the collect, but only when I'm in school, cause i'm not supposed to really log into my accounts for anything, but i much prefer faving, cause then you can see what the artist has to say and you can comment, I like being able to collect, but i think it's too impersonal

For some, even the :+fav: feature is just a means of bookmarking people's artwork. I see no major change... but maybe I'm being just a bit too cynical.
:slow:

I could think of a few ways it could be used wisely, for example a photomanipulator could have a "stock" category, or one for their favourite brushes, etc. It might also be useful if you plan on making a news article on, for example, dog pictures. Or maybe you'd like to reread your favourite literary deviations.

Come to think of it, it's not that bad... which doesn't mean it won't get abused. 8D

When I "collect", I still look at the full-view. Thumbs have been very deceptive to me—I see things that don't appear in the full version. Not sure why they also made it so you can add from thumbs.

What I do like is how I can give a general idea (to my viewers and to the person I collected from) why I like such and such piece.

People would make more sense if you wouldn't generalize them.

People will always have their issues with certain elements within the site, I made this stamp for people to express their preference. I won't hold it against people if they "collect" my art, ironically, this stamp has been added to someones collection.

So don't pass judgment so quickly.

I'm confused... aren't you still +faving work when you collect it? It still adds it to your favorites, and it's still a compliment if someone thinks it's worth collecting.

I actually like the collecting thing, because it lets me organize all my favorites. It's much easier to find things, and to keep track of stuff I want to feature or go back and look at later. So I try and do both, +fav and collect.

 each to their own, I suppose...
